Carbon High School senior student-athlete Rozlyn Stowe officially signed a National Letter of Intent with Utah Valley University Monday night in front of family, friends, and coaches at Helper Middle School.
Stowe, one of the most decorated athletes in Carbon High School history, will compete in both cross-country and track and field at Utah Valley.
“It’s been surreal, honestly. I’m really excited, but it is bittersweet,” said Stowe on Monday night. “The past four years, I’ll look back on and miss it, but I am so excited to go to the next level for the new challenges and the memories I’m going to make at Utah Valley University.”
Stowe closed out her Carbon High School cross-country career with a state championship in October, becoming the first three-time cross-country state champion in school history. Her finishing time at the 3A state championship of 17.12.67 was more than 50 seconds faster than second place and ranks as the second-fastest time on the state course since 1998.
Recovering from an injury as a junior, Stowe finished first in every meet she competed in as a senior.
“I’ve really learned to overcome and just push through hard times, because no matter what, there will be setbacks,” said Stowe. “Even though it’s always easier said than done, I just have to remember it’s going to be worth it in the end, and I have to see it through.”
The lights have been bright on Stowe since the beginning of her high school career. She earned her first state championship as a freshman, running the course in 18:17.1. Stowe became a two-time state champion in her sophomore campaign as she finished with a time of 17:45.4.
Her success has translated to the track and field season as well, claiming two state championships in the 800 meters and helping the sprint medley relay team to two state titles. The success across the board made her a top target for colleges.
With all of the options in front of her, Stowe decided to continue her career in Orem at Utah Valley University, a decision that felt right, almost immediately.
“As soon as I met the team, I just fell in love because they took me in immediately,” said Stowe on her decision to sign with Utah Valley. “It really just felt like home compared to all the other places, so I just knew that was the place I wanted to grow as a student and as an athlete.”
The book is not entirely complete on Stowe’s incredible career at Carbon High School. Signing her LOI on a table with more medals and awards to count, she will have an opportunity to close out her Carbon High School career with even more achievements this spring in track and field.
