In a world where mental health support is becoming increasingly prevalent, the Castle Country welcomed a new resource as Sandstone Psychology celebrated its grand opening on Thursday, Dec. 18.
“Sandstone Psychology is a mental health clinic rooted in compassion for the human experience,” said Jeff Robison, clinical director at Sandstone Psychology. “We believe all people are deserving of healing and capable of meaningful change in communities where resources are often limited and access to care can be a barrier.”
He continued,” We are committed to showing up with intention, understanding, and consistency. We strive to understand the specific needs of Carbon County and the surrounding rural areas.”
The practice aims to accomplish this through evidence-based, culturally responsive treatment in a safe environment. “We believe meaningful change in rural communities happens through partnership. By working together, we aim to creatively address gaps in care, strengthen local resources, and better serve the mental health needs of Price and the surrounding areas.”
Speaking to Castle Country Radio, Robison discussed some of the unique challenges that go along with rural psychology: “I grew up in Millard County … I think some of it is cultural, kind of dust yourself off, do up your boots, and get back to work and don’t deal with the mental pain of it. That’s kind of the unique challenge that we see is, there’s a culture that you have to tap into and be a part of, which is why we actively try to hire therapists within the community that can understand the culture.”
He tied this into what makes Sandstone unique,” We’re literally trying to avoid Utah and Salt Lake County because we know that suicide rates, depression rates, anxiety rates are higher in rural areas, but a lot of times there’s not access to that care that premium quality care, and we’re trying to bring that instead of you having to go to Provo or Salt Lake or wherever to get those Services. You can get it in Price down the road.”
Located at 59 South, 700 East in Price, Sandstone Psychology is open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. The practice can also be found online at sandstonepsychology.org or by calling 801-382-9338.
