Thursday evening marked the final game for Lady Spartan basketball before the start of the Christmas break. Emery traveled to Cedar City to take on the Cedar Reds. Coming off a loss in their most recent outing, they are looking to get one in the win column. Sadly, it wasn’t meant to be as the Reds handed the Lady Spartans their fourth loss of the season, 54-43.
Emery was coming off a loss to the Richfield Wildcats on Tuesday night, 42-39. After the game with Cedar, the Lady Spartans will get some much-needed time off until December 29.
The two teams came out in the first quarter looking for an edge, and by the end of the quarter, Cedar held a four-point advantage, 14-10. The pace of the contest slowed in the second quarter as the Reds tightened their defense, holding Emery to just four points and taking a 22-14 lead at halftime.
In the third, the Lady Spartans found a bit of offense, but unfortunately, they were unable to make a dent in the lead, as Cedar still held a 34-26 advantage going into the final eight minutes. Emery turned the offense on again, but Cedar pushed their way through to take the 54-43 win.
Aleeyah Cowley led the Lady Spartans, scoring 15 and missing a double-double by just one rebound with nine. Mikyla Truman scored 10 with three rebounds, and Kabree Gordon scored seven with a pair of steals and assists in the loss.
Emery will get back on the court on January 29 when Pineview comes to the Spartan Center.
Gametime is set for 7:00 p.m.
