The Carbon Dino boys’ basketball team welcomed the Delta Rabbits to Price on Friday evening, taking the floor for the last time before Christmas. The Dinos and Rabbits started tied after the first quarter, and then Carbon kicked it in in the second, but the third and fourth quarters were all Delta as they claimed the 70-63 win.
Carbon slipped to 4-6 overall with the loss and will not get back on the floor until next week when they head south for the Steve Hodson Classic in Cedar City, December 29-31.
The Dinos and the Rabbits both came out firing in a high-scoring first quarter, with the score tied at 19-19 heading into the second. Carbon would come to life once again in the second quarter, turning the defense up a notch, outscoring the Rabbits 23-12 and taking a 42-31 lead at halftime.
In the second half, the Rabbits fought back, found their offense, and put on a defensive clinic of their own, holding Carbon to seven points in the third quarter and regaining the lead, 50-49. In the final eight minutes, Delta outscored the Dinos, who couldn’t keep pace with the Rabbits, as they took the 70-63 victory.
Ty Mortensen led the Dinos with 19 points, Kyler Orth had 10, and Logan Bennett had 9 in the loss for Carbon.
Carbon heads to Cedar City on December 29 to take part in the Steve Hodson Classic, a three-day event. While there, they will face teams from Dixie, Stansbury, and Canyon View High Schools.
