The Dino swim squads traveled to Tooele to take part in the Mel Roberts Invitational over the weekend. Over 12 schools participated in the boys’ division and 11 in the girls’ division; both Carbon teams finished in fourth place.

Uintah grabbed the top spot in the boys’ division, followed by Emery. Stansbury, Carbon, and Cedar Valley made up the top five.

James Tullis earned a pair of top-five finishes for Carbon, taking second in the 200 free and grabbing a fifth-place finish in the 100-yard backstroke. Bracken Hanson claimed a pair of third-place finishes in the 200 free and the 500 free, and Logan Kranendonk finished fifth in the 200 IM.

In relays, Hanson, Kranendonk, Tullis, and Leland Kespel finshed fourth in the 200 free.

In the girls’ division, Emery finished first, with Uintah taking second. Host Tooele, Carbon, and Stansbury comprised the remainder of the top five.

Lisa King led the way for the Lady Dinos individually with a pair of first-place finishes. In the 50 free, she finished with a time of 26.01, just ahead of Arina Darii of Uintah, who finished with 27.17. In the 100 free, her time of 58.70 was well ahead of Tooele’s Vivian Chlarson’s 1:01.01. Lily Thayn earned a second-place finish in the 200 IM. Maya Bower grabbed two third-place finishes in both the 200 and 500 free, and Rachel Blackburn finished the 200 free in fourth and the 500 free in fifth.

The relay team of Bower, King, Thayn, and Kanyon Christensen earned third-place finishes in the 200 free and 200 medley relays.

The Dinos head back to the pool on January 9, when they will travel to Moab to take on the Grand Red Devils.
