The Carbon boys wrestling squad traveled to Richfield for the Utah Winter Classic. The team has stayed pretty busy during the break, and they will now make a mad dash to the end of the regular season, which takes place on January 23 and 24. Out of 23 schools that participated, the Dinos finished fourth with 10 top-10 finishes, including two first-place wins by Jantz Greenhalgh and Riker O’Hearon.
Timpanogos earned first place overall, followed by Hurricane in second. Cedar Valley, Carbon, and Pleasant Grove rounded out the top five.
Greenhalgh added to his hardware this season, earning another top finish. He went a perfect 5-0 and claimed the win in the first-place match by technical fall over Noah Ahn of Timpanogos. At 120 pounds, JJ Munoz went 6-1, claiming victory in the third-place match by a 6-5 decision over Aiden Allen of Snow Canyon. In the 132-pound class, Gage Lefler finished with a 4-2 mark for the weekend, taking victory in the fifth-place match over Carson Cooper of Pleasant Grove in an 8-3 decision. Koen Labrum also went 4-2 at 138 pounds, earning the win in his fifth-place match over Jericho Kenter of Timpanogos by a 12-10 decision.
Riker O’Hearon added another first-place finish to his resume at 150 pounds, going 4-0 and taking the win in his first-place match-up with Adam Mitchell of Cedar Valley by major decision 11-0. Jared Simmons, at 285 pounds, finished the Classic with a 4-2 record, taking the win in the third-place match against Altamont’s Kyson Miles by pin.
The Dinos will be back on the mats on Tuesday when some travel to Utah Valley University for the Utah All-Star Dual.
