A new era for Price City kicked off on Wednesday, Jan. 14, as the latest rendition of the Price City Council convened for the first time since its inauguration earlier in the month. On the docket for the group was a public hearing to hear input on updates to the Price City land use

management and development code and a principal forgiveness loan agreement with the Utah Division of Drinking Water.

Opening the meeting, the council opened the floor to the public to hear comments regarding updates for the Price City land use management and development code.

“Every year, the Planning Commission considers and reviews potential updates to the code or the zone ordinance and reviews those at their annual training meeting,” explained Nick Tatton, Price City community director. “One change is about what’s called PUB plants in a private development management plan. That one change shows up six or eight places throughout the document in the different zones and things. The other change relates to some parking requirements in some developments. So it actually solidifies the planning commission’s ability to require some additional parking should they think it necessary.”

Moving to the public, no comment was offered. As such, the hearing was closed, and the meeting returned to its general session. The council unanimously approved the updates.

The next major item was the council discussing a potential principal forgiveness loan agreement with the Utah Division of Drinking Water for $4,559,000.

Public Works Director Miles Nelson reported that this forgiveness was part of the city’s agreement with the DDW to replace the aging infrastructure currently supplying Price. “It’s the same as a grant; they’re not expecting us to pay that back,” he said.

The reason the city is approving the forgiveness this early is to purchase approximately seven miles worth of HDPE pipe while prices are low.

With no objection, the council approved the loan forgiveness, completing the final action item of the meeting.

The next meeting of the Price City Council will be held on Wednesday, Jan. 28, at 5:30 p.m. in the Price City Council Chambers. For those unable to attend in person, the meeting will be streamed live and on demand on YouTube at KOAL – Castle Country Focus.
