Closing out the last dual meet of the season in style, both Carbon and Emery participated in a cross-county brawl on Thursday, Jan. 15. Dropping only four matches throughout the meet, the Dinos overpowered Emery, closing out the season with a dominant 55-24 win.

Kicking things off in the 106 weight class, Jantz Greenhalgh got Carbon started right with a pin over Emery’s Corbin Brady. At 113, the Dinos saw a similar result as Jaden Barlow stuck Cache Collard for a pin fall victory.

JJ Munoz continued the winning way for Carbon at 120, defeating Ty Christiansen via major decision 17-6. Following the Dinos streak, Emery’s Dixon Peacock put the Spartans on the board with a fall over Kayden Smith. The celebration would be short-lived as Carbon responded immediately in the 132 weight class with a pin over Trae Pope.

Ryan Collard responded for Emery, pinning Jack Vigor, tacking on another six for the Spartans. Not looking to allow an Emery Comeback, Carbon rattled off five straight wins, seeing Riker O’Hearon, Trace Crespin, Jack Burdick, Bryson Ferguson and Cole Hinckley all defeating their opponents.

Emery’s final wins of the night came in the upper weights, with Hazen Meccariello besting Carbon’s Will Hinckley with a pin, as did Sam Mesler with his opponent, Wyler Tatton.

The dual closed with a forfeit victory for Jared Simmons at heavyweight, securing the 55-24 rivalry win for the Dinos.

Both teams now set their sights on The Rumble, one of the most prestigious folkstyle tournaments in the Western United States, on Friday and Saturday. Following this, both squads enter the postseason at the regional tournament on Jan. 23 and Jan. 24.
