Coming off a win over the Lady Dinos, the Lady Spartans traveled to Kanab to take on the Cowboys. Kanab holds a 16-2 overall record and a 7-0 region mark, and is ranked as the number one team in the 2A classification. The Cowboys came out on the offensive and didn’t let up until the final buzzer sounded, handing Emery a 49-36 loss.
With the loss, the Lady Spartans are 10-8 overall, hold a 3-1 mark in Region 13 play, and sit at the number three seed in 3A in the latest polls from MaxPreps and the Utah High School Activities Association. On Tuesday evening, Emery faced the Lady Dions from Carbon, handing the team from Price a 46-25 loss.
The Cowboys came out looking to protect their home court, and that’s exactly what they did, putting up 12 in the first while holding Emery to just seven to take a five-point lead. Emery’s offensive struggles would continue into the second quarter, as they could only put up four points, while Kanab added 13 more to take a 25-11 lead into the locker room at halftime.
In the second half, Kanab came out looking to seal the deal and put the Lady Spartans away in the third quarter, keeping up their defense and outscoring Emery 12-7 to take a 37-18 lead into the final eight minutes. In the fourth, Emery came out to make one last push and had their biggest offensive output of the game, scoring 18, but they gave up 12 more to the Cowboys and could not overcome the deficit, falling 49-36 for their eighth loss of the season.
Aleeyah Cowley scored 11 to lead the Lady Spartans in the game. Megan Stilson had six, and Elli Stoker and Carlie Hurst scored four in the loss.
The Lady Spartans will get back on the court Tuesday night, January 27th, when they travel to Manti to take on the Templars. Back in early January, Manti visited the Spartan Center, and the Lady Spartans handed them a 57- 36 loss.
