The Carbon Dinos swim team welcomed nine schools from across the region Saturday to the final regular-season meet, The Last Chance Invite. On the boys’ side of the swimming pool, Carbon claimed the top spot with the girls finishing in third.

With the regular season now in the rearview mirror, Carbon will look forward to this Friday, as they will host the Regional Tournament in preparation for the season-ending State Championships on February 13th and 14th at Brigham Young University.

In the boys’ division, Carbon finished first, with Emery second. Richfield, Union, and Spanish Fork rounded out the top five. Delta, Grand, North Sanpete, Gunnison, and Juab made up the rest of the field.

Some of the top finishers for the Carbon Dino boys team were Bracken Hanson, who took first place in the 500 free with a time of 5:23.78. He also finished second in the 200 free. Cole Arthur took second in the 100 free, and James Tullis finished second in the 500 free behind Hanson.

It was Spanish Fork grabbing the top spot on the girls’ side of the pool, followed by Emery in second. Carbon, North Sanpete, and Grand rounded out the top five, with Richfield, Union, and Juab also competing.

The Lady Dinos claimed two first-place finishes in relays. In the 400 free relay, Rachel Blackburn, Maya Bower, Kanyon Christensen, and Lily Thayn finished first in 4:11.10, and in the 200 free, it was Bower, Christensen, Thayn, and Lisa King finishing in 1:50.60.

King also claimed two top finishes on the day. In the 50 free, she finished in 26.84, and in the 100 free, she claimed first place with her time of 1:00.48. Thayn claimed first place in the 100 fly at 1:10.55, and Bower grabbed two second-place finishes in the 200 free and the 100 free.

The Dinos will now prepare to host Region 13 on Friday at the Desert Wave Pool for the regional tournament, the final step before the State Championships in February at Brigham Young.
