
John Edward Vermazen passed away on December 25th, 2026 in Brooklyn, New York at the age of 39. Born September 25, 1986, he was the cherished son of William and Bernadine Vermazen, and the brother of Patrick Montoya, Danielle Vermazen, and Steven Vermazen. John grew up with his family in Belleair, Florida. He was an inquisitive child who loved reading and teaching those around him about what he learned.
He attended Palm Harbor University High School where he was a part of the IB program. After he graduated in 2005, he studied at the University of Florida where he earned his Bachelor of Arts in Economics, History, and Econometrics in 2010. During which, he was involved in student organizations including Amnesty International and the University Economics Society; in addition to serving as a reading tutor at Idyllwilde Elementary.
After graduating, he moved up to New York City where he created a start-up, Vermassen Tailored Test Prep Services, where he helped tailor study material and test preparation for students taking standardized tests. During which he was studying at Baruch College where he received his degree in Financial Engineering in 2015. Before launching into his entrepreneurial ventures, John built his career working as a Capital Market Consultant and Data Fabric Wealth Architect with Broadridge. He later worked as Product Manager for Credit Agricole CIB and Program Manager for DataCatalyst. He was drawn to complex systems and gravitated towards jobs that challenged his analytical knowledge and required inventive problem-solving skills. His interest in emerging technology and entrepreneurial spirit lead to him founding AVALLON Labs with his brother Steven Vermazen. The company was a R&D hub/service manager leveraging automation to target value in exotic algo strategy models.
He leaves behind a loving family: his parents, William and Bernadine Vermazen; his siblings, Patrick Montoya and Danielle Vermazen; his maternal grandmother, Francis Martinez; his nephews, Justice Montoya and Braydon Pacheco.
Preceding John in death was his brother Steven Vermazen, who was someone he loved deeply.
John leaves behind a legacy of intelligence, ambition, and an entrepreneurial spirit. He will be deeply missed but never forgotten. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to Hospice.
A funeral mass will be held at Notre Dame de Lourdes Catholic Church, Price, Utah at 12:00 p.m., on Saturday, February 7th, 2026. Committal service will follow in the Price City Cemetery with a memorial luncheon to follow.
