Known for its wide selection of bulls, as well as its convenience for buyers, Gillman Livestock’s Basin Bull Preview and Trade Show makes its return on Saturday, Jan. 31. Brent Gillman from Gillman Livestock joined the KOAL newsroom to preview the affair and what buyers can expect from the preview.
“We feed for multiple different seed stock producers. We currently have about 25 that we’re feeding. Those individuals all sell their bulls through different avenues. We have about four different bull cells that we feed for, and then we also have about 90 private treaty bulls,” explained Gillman. “Those private guys kind of hold off selling them and kind of that’s kind of the kickoff of their private treaty season so it’s kind of a first come first opportunity on a lot of good bulls.”
Featuring over 350 bulls, the show is one of the largest in the Western United States, providing buyers with an opportunity to purchase premium livestock with extreme convenience.
“We’ve been in this business for about 10 years now, and the last few years I’ve seen a trend that we’re starting to see people come from all over to buy bulls out of our feed yard,” expressed Gillman. “We have good cattle, and I think people are starting to realize that. I’m seeing people from surrounding states come in and get these genetics.”
A major benefit of buying from the Basin Bull Preview is Gillman Livestock’s low-stress approach to purchasing and delivering the bulls. “That’s something we pride ourselves on a lot, is having low stress handling … We want to stand behind a reputation of having low stress bulls and ones that are easy to handle.”
Gillman continued,” I mean, if a guy’s named a lot of bulls, there’s a lot of options, you know, he can buy, you know, multiple bulls from different sales or by private treaty bulls, and then we’ll just make the arrangements on that end. And even though he’s bought him from different sales that we feed for, brought a private treaty bull, we can help them make the arrangements to get that bull delivered to him.”
Also included as a part of the preview is a free lunch,” My wife takes care of that lunch and gets all that ready. And she makes some chili, and she makes some scones, and some cinnamon rolls and man, everybody’s always just super excited about that.”
Outside of the opportunity to buy bulls, the preview also offers buyers the chance to learn from Zoetis Animal Health about proper care and vaccinations. Also present at the show is a trade show, with Gillman sharing,” If you’re needing some livestock supplies or whatever, maybe we’re gonna have a vendor that’s gonna be able to have what you’re looking for.”
Gillman Livestock’s Basin Bull Preview and Trade Show takes place on Saturday, Jan. 31, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. in Myton, Utah. For more information on the event, visit www.gilmanlivestock.com or contact Gillman at 435-724-1230.
