On Friday night, the Carbon Dinos welcomed in the North Sanpete Hawks to the gym in Price. The Dinos are heading into the final week of the regular season and are looking to improve their standings in the latest rankings. Carbon led after the first quarter on Senior Night, but a stagnant second quarter allowed North Sanpete to take the lead and hold on for a 65-55 win.
Carbon sits at 7-13 overall and 2-4 in Region 13 play and also holds the No. 12 spot in the latest MaxPreps and Utah High School Activities Association rankings. Carbon now has two games left on its regular-season schedule before the season ends on Friday. The contest with North Sanpete also marked Senior Night as the Dinos said goodbye to six upperclassmen: Kyler Orth, Logan Bennett, Ty Mortensen, Caleb Sorenson, Cash Withers, and Carter Warburton.
Carbon came out in the first quarter, working their way through the North Sanpete defense and pushing to a 17-13 lead. In the second quarter, North Sanpete turned up their defense and found more offense, outscoring Carbon 20-9 to take a 33-26 lead into halftime.
In the third quarter, Union kept the pace they carried over from the first half. Still, Carbon found a little something in their offense and were able to keep the Cougars in striking distance, down by 11, 50-39, going into the fourth. In the final eight minutes, the Dinos mounted a comeback, but Union kept them at a distance and held onto the lead they had created to take the 65-55 win.
Kyler Orth scored 19 for the Dinos, Jakson Bosone dropped in 17, and Logan Bennett added seven in the loss.
Wednesday marks the beginning of the final week of the regular season for the Dinos, as they travel to Manti to take on the 8-13 Templars. Manti sits at No. 11 in the latest rankings and is also second in Region 13 with a 4-2 record. Back on January 16th, Carbon dropped and over time thriller to Manti in Price 81-75.
