Lady Pirates of Green River have been looking for that first win of the season, and unfortunately, it did not come on Tuesday night in Monument Valley against the Cougars. There were some good moments for Green River, but at the end of the game, they still came out on the wrong side of the scoreboard 67-32.

The Lady Pirates are 0-17 overall and 0-6 in region play, holding the No. 20 spot in the latest rankings from MaxPreps and the Utah High School Activities Association, with just three games left.

The Cougars came out strong in the first quarter, scoring 18 points as Monument Valley’s defense held the Pirates to just four. In the second quarter, the Pirates showed a little more life, adding 13 points, but Monument Valley added 21, and the teams went to the locker room at halftime with the Cougars up 39-17.

In the second half, it was more Monument Valley, as they came out in the third, putting up 12 points and holding the Pirates to five, going into the final eight minutes up 51-22. In the fourth, Monument Valley added 16 more while holding Green River to 10 to take the 67-32 victory.

Quianna Quintana added nine for the Lady Pirates. Brailie Parsons had eight, and Mattie Meadows had six in the loss.

The Lady Pirates will return to the court on Friday when they travel to take on the number 17-ranked Monticello Buckaroo.
