The regular season for the Lady Dinos basketball squad is slowly winding down, and on Tuesday night, they had one of their final region contests against the Manti Templars. Carbon maintained a lead throughout, and even though the Templars threatened in the second half, Carbon came out on top 39-35.
Carbon sits at 9-13 overall and 3-4 in Region 13. The rankings have been removed and will be revealed along with the final bracket for the State Championships on Saturday, February 7th at 11:00 a.m.
The first quarter, along with the rest of the game, proved these two teams were evenly matched, as the Lady Dinos came out scoring 13 and held Manti to 11 by the end of the period. Moving into the second, it was a very low-scoring quarter as Carbon held Manti to just five points and added nine of their own to take a 22-16 lead into the locker rooms at halftime.
It was the third quarter where Manti made their run, turning up the defense, which resulted in seven empty possessions to start the quarter for Carbon and the Templars tying up the score at 22-22 at the 3:30 mark. Coach Blanc made a line change at the three-minute mark, pulling his starters and emptying the bench, giving the Lady Dinos the spark they needed, as Carbon went on an 11-5 run to regain the lead at 33-27. In the fourth, Carbon kept Manti at a distance to hold on for the 39-35 win.
Chrissy Jones led the Dinos scoring 13 off the bench grabbing four rebounds and a steal. Malia Smith added six with a pair of boards, and Harley Hopes, Elsie Morley, and Tayla Orth each scored four in the win.
The Lady Dinos will close out the regular season on Thursday when the Lady Spartans come calling. Emery sits at 12-9 overall and 5-2 in Region 13 play. In their first meeting in Castle Dale, the Spartans handed Carbon a 46-25 loss.
It will be “Senior Night” as the Lady Dinos will thank their upperclassmen.
