The Lady Spartans welcomed the No.2 North Sanpete Hawks to the Spartan Center on “Senior Night”. The game was a battle from beginning to end, and although Emery held a slight advantage in the fourth, the Hawks came back to take the win, 52-49.

Emery sits at 12-9 overall and 5-2 in region play. The rankings compiled by MaxPreps and the Utah High School Activities Association have been removed and will be released along with the final bracket for the State Championships on Saturday, February 7, at 11:00 a.m.

As this was the final home game of the regular season, Emery said goodbye to four seniors on this year’s team. Carlie Hurst, Addie Hurst, Kabree Gordon, and Megan Stilson were singled out and thanked for their contributions to the Spartans.

The contest started quietly in the first quarter, with North Sanpete taking a small 11-8 lead as they headed into the second quarter.  The Hawks were able to outscore the Lady Spartans once again in the second, widening their lead 24-18 as both teams headed to the locker room for halftime.

In the second half, the Lady Spartans came out on the offensive, using their defense to score. They went on a run and outscored the Hawks 13-10 in the quarter to cut into North Sanpete’s lead. Starting the fourth, down 34-31, the Spartans continued their push, and with 4:14 left in the game, Aleeyah Cowley stepped up to the foul line, hitting both shots to give Emery a 40-38 lead. That was when the battle began again, and North Sanpete would take over, closing out the Spartans to take the 52-49 win.

Cowley finished the game with 14 points, six rebounds, and a pair of steals. Kabree Gordon had 10 with two boards, and Megan Stilson added eight with four rebounds, two blocks, an assist, and a steal.

Emery has one game left in the regular season on Thursday when they travel to Price to face the Lady Dinos. Carbon sits at 9-13 overall and 3-4 in region play. The first time these two met in Castle Dale, Emery came away with a 46-25 win.
