
The Lady Dinos closed out the regular season on Thursday evening against the Lady Spartans. With it being the final home game, the Dinos would say goodbye to three seniors. The game was a battle between the rivals, with Emery taking the early advantage and never looking back, earning a 50-36 win.
Carbon ends the regular season 9-14 overall and 3-5 in region play, and awaits the final rankings, to be released on Saturday morning by MaxPreps and the Utah High School Activities Association. The Lady Spartans ended with a 13-9 mark, going 6-2 in the region.
The Lady Dinos bid farewell to seniors Emma Bowman, Bailey Johnson, and Harley Hopes, thanking them for their contributions to Carbon athletics.
In the opening quarter, Emery came out with a stiffening defense, holding the Lady Dinos to three points, a three-pointer by Johnson with 3:57 left. Moving into the second, Carbon came out looking to cut into the Emery lead, but the Spartans still maintained an advantage going to the locker rooms at halftime, 20-9.
In the second half, Emery kept up the pace, outscoring the Dinos 22-13 and built their lead going into the final eight minutes to 42-22. In the fourth, the Dinos found their offense but were unable to crack the lead the Lady Spartans had built, falling 50-36.
For the Spartans, Carlie Hurst scored 14, while Kabree Gordon added eight, and Aleeyah Cowley scored six in the win.
Kayla Jones led all scorers with 17 for the Lady Dinos. Elsie Morley and Tayla Orth each had four.
On Saturday morning at 11:00, MaxPreps and the Utah High School Activities Association will release the final rankings and the bracket for the State Championships, which begin on February 14.
