The Emery Spartans had 13 student-athletes earn Academic All-State honors during the winter sports season. Student-athletes from girls’ basketball, wrestling, swimming, and drill all received nods for their abilities, not just on the field but also in the classroom.

The honor is awarded using the following criteria found on the Utah High School Activities Association website:

Each sport and activity season, the UHSAA will open nominations through RegisterMyAthlete. Parents/students will enter their RegisterMyAthlete account and click on the Academic All-State tab to enter their unweighted cumulative high school GPA, ACT/SAT score, and submit the nomination form. Schools must confirm that the student-athlete is a varsity contributor, verify the GPA and ACT/SAT score, ensure the student is a senior, and upload a current transcript before submitting the nomination to the UHSAA by the specified deadline. The Academic All-State award will now be decided by either meeting an index score or having a 4.0 unweighted GPA.

Swimming led the way for the Spartans, with five members of the squad given honors. Jamison Christiansen, Jaxon Durrant, and Zander Robinson were named from the boys’ team, and for the Lady Spartans, Emma Grimm and Kaila Martineau earned mention.

The Lady Spartan basketball team had four players make the list, and all four have been consistent throughout the season on the court and in the classroom at Emery. Addie Hurst, Carlie Hurst, Kabree Gordon, and Megan Stilson were all named to the list.

In wrestling, three Spartans received the nod for their work on the mat and in the classroom. Corbin Jensen, Damon Farley, and Dixon Peacock received the honors.

In drill, Lydia Behling was the only Spardette given the honor.

Congratulations to the Academic All-State recipients from Emery High School.
