The Green River Lady Pirates started the weekend on the road in Monticello on Friday to take on the Buckaroo. They returned home on Saturday to take on the Escalante Moquis. Both contests were against tough opponents, and the Lady Pirates put forth a great effort but still came up short, losing 73-20 to Monticello and 68-16 to Escalante.
The Pirates’ season has not gone the way they had hoped. They sit at 0-19 overall, and with one contest left on the schedule, they will most likely enter the postseason in the last spot in the final rankings.
The Lady Pirates got started on the road in Monticello on Friday. The Buckaroo came out fast in the first, overpowering Green River, taking a 31-6 lead. The second quarter was more Monticello, as they added another 26 points to their total and held Green River to just two points, as both teams headed to the locker room with the Buckaroo up 57-8.
Monticello dialed it back in the second half, having already built a 49-point lead, and Green River added 12 more points to their total, falling to the Buckaroo, 73-20.
On Saturday, the Pirates were back at home to face the Escalante Moquis. The contest with Escalante started much like the game with Monticello, as the Moquis jumped on the Lady Pirates early in the first, running the score to 20-4. In the second, they would use their defense to create offense, compiling 25 steals and taking a 39-9 lead into halftime.
Escalante kept the lead that they had built in the first half, carrying it through the second as they closed out the Pirates 68-16.
Brailie Parsons scored eight in the contest for Green River. Mattie Meadows scored four, and Gracie Burnett and Haylie Nelson each had two points in the loss.
Green River will be back on the Court on Wednesday, February 11, on the road in Price to face the Pinnacle Panthers in the season finale.
Game time is set for 5:30 p.m.
