Emery Spartan swimmers will travel to Provo on Friday for the State Championships at Brigham Young University.  In all, 34 Spartans will take part in the event over two days, with preliminary rounds on Friday and finals on Saturday.

This is the culmination of the regular season, which saw Emery finish second overall at the Region 13 Championships at the Desert Wave Pool in Price on January 30.

The Lady Spartans will send 17 competitors to the meet.  Starting with the 200 free, where Annie Johansen, Emma Grimm, Syndi Lake, and Maggie Jeffs will face the field. Brooklyn O’Neil, Lily White, Abbie Moulton, and Kaila Matineau will jump into the pool for the 200 IM. In the shortest race of the event, the 50 free, the Lady Spartans will send Illyria Mason, Jessie Childs, Hallie Frandsen, and Hadley Meccariello up against the rest of 3A. Frandsen and Childs will hop into the pool for the 100 butterfly, while Grimm, Grace Allen, Kate Bell, and Meccariello will compete in the 100 free. Johansen, Lake, Martineau, and Grace Gardner will compete in the longest event, the 500 free. Mason, Allen, Bell, and Jeffs will take part in the backstroke, with O’Neil, Moulton, Laycee Winn, and Chante Guymon competing for the Spartans in the breaststroke.

Emery will also be sending 17 swimmers in the boys’ division, starting in the 200 free, where Jaxon Durrant, Kamron Hanson, Tayden Rasmussen, and Cobin Madsen will compete. Reve Mason will jump into the pool along with Cody Howard, Jacob Morris, and Ethan Mills for the 200 IM. In the 50 free, Thomas Black, Jamison Christiansen, Tyler Daley, and Brekker Bunnell will go to work. In the butterfly, Mason will get back to work along with Leland Perez and Hayden Willis. In the 100 freestyle, Trek Petersen will be joined by Daley, Hanson, and Robert Bennett. Moving into the 500 free: Rasmussen, Durrant, Madsen, and Hyrum Russell will swim for Emery. Black, Bunnell, and Russell will compete in the backstroke, while Petersen, Howard, and Mills will compete in the breaststroke.

On Friday, February 13, warm-ups will begin at 4:00 p.m., and preliminaries will start at 5:00 p.m. On Saturday, after warm-ups, the finals will begin at 5:00 p.m.
