The Utah State Eastern softball team traveled to Trinidad, Colorado, to play four games against three different teams. They played against Colby Community College, Garden City Community College, and the hosts, Trinidad State College.
The Eagles opened the weekend with a run-rule victory over Colby Community College. Brooklyn Zajac’s offensive performance led Eastern to an 11-3 win. Zajac went 2-4, including a double, a homerun, and four RBIs. Eastern used an eight-run fourth inning to finish the game.
The second day of the game was against the Trinidad State College Trojans. The Eagles’ offense was consistent throughout the contest, scoring in four of the five innings. Eastern had six extra-base hits en route to a 12-3 win over the Trojans.
Day two of contests started with a second-straight matchup against the Trojans. Similar to the first, the Eagles hit their way to a 9-1 run-rule victory over TSC.
The last game of the weekend was the closest. The Eagles jumped out to an 8-2 lead over Garden City after the third inning. The Eagles added three more in the fifth, extending their lead late. The Eagles won, 11-7, to sweep the weekend.
Next for the Eagles is a trip to Henderson, Nevada, to take on the College of Southern Nevada in a four-game series. Games are set to begin on Friday, February 27.
