In the early morning hours of Wednesday, Feb. 25, a “high-risk domestic disturbance” occurred on Wellington Main Street, requiring SWAT intervention.
The incident began when law enforcement officers responded to a residence on Wellington Main Street on a domestic violence call.
According to a release from the Carbon County Sheriff’s Office, “Upon arrival, law enforcement attempted to make contact with the male subject involved. The subject refused to cooperate with lawful commands and barricaded himself inside the residence, refusing to exit.”
Concerned for citizens’ safety, officers closed down Main Street to all vehicle and pedestrian traffic while the situation was ongoing.
With the suspect barricaded in his home and due to the violent nature of the call, the decision was made to obtain a warrant and activate the Carbon County SWAT team.
Upon arrival, the SWAT team engaged in negotiations with the suspect, eventually convincing the suspect to leave the residence. Upon his exit, he was promptly apprehended by authorities.
In a release, Carbon County Sheriff Jeff Wood stated,” We are grateful for our SWAT team and the level of professionalism they display in diffusing volatile situations such as this.”
The suspect – who has not been publicly identified – is being held in the Carbon County Jail, where he faces charges of aggravated assault resulting in serious bodily injury and unlawful detention.
