Barbara Ann Petty, age 71, passed away peacefully, on a beautiful early Spring Day, in her Emery home on Sunday, March 1, 2026, surrounded by the family she loved so dearly.

Barb was born on October 26, 1954, in Murray, Utah, to Robert and Geraldine Mattox. Growing up in a bustling household, she held the special role of being the oldest daughter and was cherished by her three older brothers, Gary, John, and Mike who took great pride in their sister.

Throughout her life, Barb remained a pillar of strength and connection for her siblings. She shared an unbreakable bond with her sisters, Karen and Penny, remaining close and supportive until the very end. In a final testament to the family’s deep affection, her youngest brother, Bob, spent Barb’s final day right by her side.

On August 21st, 1971, Barb married the love of her life, Donald Lewis Petty, in Idaho. Together, they built a life centered on family. Barb was a devoted mother to her children, Dawna and Kenny, who remained by her side until the end. She also embraced Steve, Don’s son from a previous relationship, as an essential and beloved part of the family fold. Don and Barb are together again, as Don preceded his “Brown-Eyed Girl,” Barb in death in 2015. He was 68 years old.

In the town of Emery, Barb found more than a daughter-in-law in Teri (Ken’s wife); she found a true daughter and a best friend. The two shared countless hours over coffee and crafts, fostering a friendship that lasted until Barb’s final hour.

Beyond her home, Barb dedicated herself to her community as an EMT for Emery County for over 20 years. Many lives were touched by her kindness and skill during their hardest times.

Barb’s heart only grew as her family expanded, and she considered this growth to be her life’s work. She was a proud grandmother to Donnee and Tascha (Dawna’s children) and Jason and Justin (Ken and Teri’s children). Her legacy continues through her great-grandchildren, Aiden and Kayce, whom she knew well as neighbors and helpers. Add them to Donnee’s kids and countless others who loved Barb, her legacy of love will not be soon forgotten.

She will be remembered for her unwavering devotion to those she loved, her kind spirit, and the quiet grace she carried through her life. Her presence will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
