The Emery track and field season got started last weekend in Moab at the Grand Invite. Skylee Guymon continued her dominance in the hurdles with a record-breaking performance. The Lady Spartans finished the meet in fifth place, with the boys team taking 10th.
Guymon claimed three top finishes, including breaking her own State Record in the 300-meter hurdles. It seems the Lady Spartan is ready to roll for the season.
On the girls’ side, the Union Cougars landed in first place, with the host team Grand taking second. Carbon, Cedar Valley, and Emery rounded out the top five of 12 teams that competed.
Guymon claimed first place in the 300 hurdles, breaking her 3A State Record from last May with a time of 42.45. She also took first in the 100 hurdles with a time of 14.54 and in the 200 with a 25.40.
Addy Guymon collected two second-place finishes in the 800 and 1600 meters, and in the 4×400 relay, the team of Addy Guymon, Skylee Guyman, Molly Christiansen, and Carlie Hurst finished second overall.
In the boys division, Cedar Valley took the top spot, followed by Carbon. Union, San Juan, and Manti rounded out the top five. Emery finished in 10th.
Brek Griffin earned a first-place finish in the high jump at 6-0.0 feet, and the Emery boys relay team of Daxton Larsen, Connor Nielson, Trae Pope, and Mateo Arnaudet took fifth in the 4×400 relay.
Spartans will get back to work on Wednesday when they travel to Richfield for a meet, and then on Saturday, they will take part in the annual Farm Bureau Invitational at Carbon High School.
