The Carbon Dinos completed a double-header sweep of the North Sanpete Hawks with a thrilling 7-6, and comfortable 9-5 victory Wednesday afternoon in Helper.
Game one of the double-header set ended in dramatic fashion as Gavin Robinett blasted a solo home run off of North Sanpete’s Shawn Taylor. The walk-off shot was an answer to two North Sanpete runs in the top of the sixth to tie the game.
Trailing 4-1 in the bottom of the fourth, the Dinos scored five runs to jump back out in front. The game remained 6-4 until the sixth inning when the Hawks tied the contest.
Ty Anderson helped pace the Carbon production offensively with a two RBI triple in the fifth. Collin Lewis finished 2-4 with a double and one RBI at the plate. As a team the Dinos accumulated six hits, compared to eight for the Hawks.
Zac Bradley earned the win on the mound allowing just one earned run and eight hits in 5.2 innings. Chase Morgan recorded the final four outs without allowing a single hit as the Dinos improved to 5-2 in Region 12 play.
The offensive production continued to roll for the Dinos as they soundly defeated the Hawks in game two of the double-header 9-5.
The wire-to-wire win started off positive for Carbon with two runs in the bottom of the first. The lead grew to 8-1 by the end of the fourth inning, as the Dinos cruised to the comfortable four run win.
Jayden Flemmett and Cody Lowe both launched home runs to combine for five RBI, and three hits int eh win. Kameron Gunter, Lewis and Anderson each contributed one RBI as the Dinos increased their team total hits to eight.
Lowe notched the win on the hill finishing with six strikeouts and allowing 10 hits and four earned runs in 6.2 innings. Jaxon Leonard finished the game’s final out, recording a strikeout to help secure the game.
Now 6-2 in Region 12 play, the Dinos will look for the season series sweep of the Hawks when the two teams meet in Mount Pleasant. The contest will set the stage for a potential region championship set with Canyon View next week.
