The Lady Spartan softball team traveled to the annual St. George Tournament, taking on five teams from throughout the region at the two-day event. Emery was unable to collect a win, moving to 0-7 this season.

In the opening game of the weekend, they face the Ridgeline Riverhawks from Millville, Utah. Emery took the lead early, but the Riverhawks used a pair of big innings to put the Lady Spartans away 12-4.

A pair of singles and a walk loaded up the bases for Emery’s Elli Stoker as she sent a single to the shortstop to get the Spartans on the board when Elly Stilson scored. Morgan Tuttle stepped into the batter’s box, sending a single to third, driving in Hadley Larsen. Up next was Aleeyah Cowley as she came up to the plate with the bases loaded, sending a fly ball to center for a double, and would drive in Bailey Luke to give Emery a 3-0 lead. After holding the Riverhawks off the scoreboard in their first at bat, the Spartans came back up in the top of the second, and after a pair of singles, Luke came up to bat, and Stillson would score on a wild pitch, giving Emery a 4-1 lead.

Ridgeline came up in the third and not only shut down the Lady Spartans offense, but they also rattled off 12 unanswered runs to close out Emery, taking a 12-4 win.

Stilson, Larsen, and Tuttle all went 2-3. Stilson added two runs with Larsen adding one and Tuttle collecting an RBI in the loss.

Allison Jeffs started on the mound, going 3.1 innings and giving up eight earned runs on nine hits. Aliee Wilde gave up a pair of runs, and Stoker gave up two runs, one earned, on two hits.

Up next was the Blackfoot Broncos from Blackfoot, Idaho. The Spartans scored four runs in the first, but the Broncos took control, earning the 14-4 win.

With one out on the board, Stoker came up to the plate and grounded out to second, but Stilson, who had made her way to third off a steal, crossed the plate. Jeffs was at the plate when Larsen would score on a passed ball from third. Tuttle was able to score on a wild pitch in the same at-bat, and Jeffs would finally connect with one, sending it to right field, and drove in Cowley to give the Lady Spartans the 4-0 lead.

Blackfoot scored six in the bottom half of the inning, and then would carry through the remainder of the game, adding runs and closing out Emery 14-4.

In the game, Stilson, Larsen, Tuttle, and Cowley collected one hit each.

Jeffs got the start on the mound, going 3.1 innings with 11 runs, eight earned, on nine hits while striking out four. Stoker closed out the contest, giving up three runs, two earned, on three hits.

After resting they Spartans woke up on Saturday to face the Idaho Falls Tigers. Emery once again scored four in the game and came up short, 10-4.

Emery would get on the board first when, during Stoker’s at bat, Stilson scored on a passed ball. The next two innings were scoreless for the Lady Spartans, but the Tigers were able to take the lead with a pair of runs in the second.

The Spartans wouldn’t score again until the bottom of the fourth, with Idaho Falls up 6-1. Zadriee Norton stepped in and hit a grounder, reaching on an error by the shortstop, and Cowley would score from third. Two batters later, a Stoker single to left brought home Stilson and Norton, and Emery closed the gap to 6-4, and that was as close as Emery would get as the Tigers piled on four more runs to take the 10-4 win.

Stilson turned in a 3-3 performance with a pair of runs, Cowley went 2-3 with one run scored, and Stoker was 1-3 with two RBIs in the loss.

The next contest on Saturday was against the Liberty Patriots from Henderson, Nevada. The lone score in the game for the Spartans was a solo home run from Stilson in the third as the Patriots overpowered Emery 11-1.

Stilson was 2-2 with an RBI and a run scored. Cowley went 2-2 and Larsen 1-2 in the loss.

Stoker got the start on the bump, going 1.1 and giving up eight runs, four earned, on two hits, striking out one. Jeffs gave up three runs, two earned on five hits, and Joleene Keisel surrendered one hit.

The final game of the weekend was the most competitive for Emery as they faced the Wasatch Wasps from Heber City. The Wasps held the lead throughout, but the Spartans found their offense with nine hits, falling to the Wasps 14-10.

The Lady Spartans found themselves down 7-0 in the bottom of the first and needed to dig themselves out quickly. Larsen came up to bat with one out and sent a double to center. Cowley came up next and sent another to center, this time a single, but it was enough to get Larsen across home plate. Now with a pair of outs, Luke stepped in, sending a grounder to the second baseman and driving in Hadley Grimm and Cowley. The scoring would end in the next at bat as Stoker sent a single to center, and Luke would score as Emery was able to cut into the lead 7-4.

Wasatch would add one more in the second and then four in the third to get the score to 12-4 as the two teams headed to the bottom of the third. Grimm would get the scoring started again as she crossed the plate on a bases-loaded walk of Stoker. Tuttle would double to get Luke and Kaybree Jensen home. Two batters later, with two outs, Stilson singled back to the pitcher, bringing Miller home, but still trailed 12-8. After keeping Wasatch off the board at the top of the fourth, Emery was still looking to take the lead. After Cowley reached on an error to start the bottom of the inning, Grimm came up to the plate and sent one toward second, getting Cowley home. A walk and a single would bring Stoker to the plate, and during her at bat, Jensen would score on a passed ball to get Emery to 10 runs, but that was as close as they came. Wasatch added two more runs to close out Emery, 14-10.

Stilson was 2-4 in the game with an RBI. Grimm was 2-4 as well, scoring a pair of runs and collecting an RBI, and Cowley went 1-3 with two runs and an RBI in the loss.
