The Dino boys volleyball team traveled to Mount Pleasant over the weekend to play in the North Sanpete Invitational. Playing six games in two days, Carbon was unable to secure a victory, moving to 1-6 on the season.

The Dino started the weekend off by taking on the Highland Rams from Salt Lake. Carbon couldn’t take advantage of their opportunities and fell in straight sets, 25-13 and 25-11.

In the matches, Carter Warburton earned three kills, Collin Mills-Bishop had two service aces, and Grant Mathis collected six assists and four digs.

In the second game of the weekend, they faced off with the Timpview Thunderbirds out of Provo. Each set was more competitive than those in the first match, but the Dinos fell in straight sets.

In the opening set, Carbon stayed close with the Thunderbirds, but Timpview would come out on top 25-19. The second set was more of the same, with Timpview winning 25-18 and taking the match two sets to none.

Warburton collected eight kills and six digs in the loss, with Dylan Black collecting 10 digs and Kyler Orth earning nine kills.

In the final match on Friday, Carbon would take on the Cedar Reds, and once again, Carbon was competitive. They fell in straight sets 25-19 and 25-16.

Moving into Saturday, the Dinos faced the Copper Hills Grizzlies. The Grizzlies would earn a 3-0 win.

Carbon would struggle throughout all three sets as the Grizzlies took set one 25-11. In set two, Copper Hills continued to build on the opening set, taking a 25-12 victory. Set three was all about the Grizzlies as they took the 25-13 win, closing out the Dinos in three sets.

After taking on the Grizzlies, Carbon would now face the Hillcrest Huskies. Carbon would earn its first set win in this contest, but still lost 3-1.

Carbon earned a win in the first set, 25-23, but after that, it was all Huskies. Hillcrest would go on to take set two 25-9. Set three went to the Huskies as well by the score of 25-15, and then Hillcrest closed out the Dinos in a more competitive set, 25-23.

Warburton collected 17 kills, 13 digs, and a pair of service aces. Orth collected nine kills, and Bryken Preston had 12 assists, three digs, and three service aces, and Grant Mathis also had 12 assists to go with six digs and five service aces.

The Dinos would close out the weekend with a match against the Dixie Flyers. Carbon would collect another set win but fall 3-1 in the match.

Dixie earned a win in a highly competitive first set, 26-24. Carbon would battle back in set two and took the win 25-23. The Flyers came back to take the third set, 25-19, and then shut down the Dinos in the fourth, 25-14, to take the 3-1 win.

Warburton had 17 kills and 17 digs with four service aces. Dylan Black had 16 digs, Mills-Bishop had eight. Orth and Grant Sherman each had six kills in the loss.

Carbon will be back on the road Tuesday to face the Grantsville Cowboys.
