On Wednesday afternoon, the Lady Dinos softball squad welcomed the Gunnison Valley Bulldogs to the fields in Price. Carbon was coming off a high-scoring loss against the Lady Spartans from Emery and was looking to get back to business against the Bulldogs. Compared to their last outing, the contest with Gunnison was a low-scoring affair with the Dinos being handed a 6-4 loss.
Tuesday’s contest was an offensive outburst from both sides as the two teams combined for 33 runs on 29 hits with the Spartans coming away with the 19-14 win.
Carbon would come up in the bottom of the first down 1-0, but with a swing of the bat, Shayla Penovich would change that, sending a single to right, bringing home Brailee Peterson and Aleece Ardohain home to put the Dinos up 2-0.
Carbon went quiet until the bottom of the fourth, and the Dinos were down by one as Kadence Vea stepped into the batter’s box, sending a single to the shortstop, bringing Kennlee Kennedy and Vea home as she would make it all the way around to score, giving Carbon the 4-3 lead.
Gunnison answered back in the top of the fifth with three runs of their own and then were able to keep the Lady Dinos scoreless the remainder of the contest to take the 6-4 win.
Alexa Jones was 3-5 in the contest, and Penovich was 2-4 with two RBIs. Kennedy was 2-4 with a run scored, and Vea was 2-4 with two RBIs and a run scored.
Vea also put in work on the mound with six earned runs on eight hits, striking out three.
Carbon will head south for the weekend to take part in the Richfield tournament.
