On Tuesday, the Emery Spartan baseball squad was back at it on the road in Mount Pleasant to take on the North Sanpete Hawks. Emery took the 3-0 lead early, and then North Sanpete could only score two runs the rest of the game as the Spartans took the region win 3-2.

The win moves Emery to 5-11 overall and 1-4 in Region 13 play, sitting in the No. 12 spot in the latest rankings from MaxPreps.

The Spartans would get on the board in the second, when with two outs, Eastern Stoker stepped up to the plate and sent a home run ball over the left field fence to give Emery the 1-0 lead.

Emery held North Sanpete off the scoreboard in the bottom half of the inning, and then, coming out in the top of the third with one out, Trygg Jensen sent a single to right field, bringing Bodee Norton in to score. One batter later with two outs, Garrett Conover hit a single to right field bringing Jensen home to score to give the Spartans the 3-0 lead.

It wasn’t until the bottom of the fourth that the North Sanpete bats would come alive, scoring two runs to cut into the Emery lead, 3-2. With Jensen on the mound, the Spartans would shut down the Hawks for the remainder of the game, holding on to take the 3-2 victory.

Jensen was 1-3 at the plate with an RBI and a run scored; Conover was 1-3 at the plate with an RBI; and Stoker was 1-3 with an RBI and a run scored for Emery. Norton was 1-3 with a run, and Drake Stilson and Beau Stilson each went 1-3 at the plate in the win.

Coming off a no-hitter the last time on the mound, Jensen had just as effective a game this go round with a complete game, giving up two runs, one earned, on three hits and striking out five.

Emery heads back to the diamond on Thursday when they travel to face the Beaver Beavers.
