The Utah State University Eastern Lady Eagles extended the softball season with a two game split in the Scenic West Athletic Conference Tournament Wednesday afternoon in Taylorsville.
Entering the tournament as the No. 6 seed, the Lady Eagles pulled off an upset in the opening round with a dominating 13-1 victory over the Southern Nevada Coyotes. The win marks the first in nine tries this season against Southern Nevada.
Holding a 3-0 lead in the fourth inning, the Lady Eagles pulled away by scoring ten runs in the top of the fifth. Allowing just one run in the bottom half of the frame, the game was called due to the mercy rule.
USU Eastern sophomore McKell Marble earned the win on the hill, allowing just three hits in a complete game effort. Dejah Rogers was hit with the loss for Southern Nevada in a four frame outing.
Mateah Tuckett paced the Lady Eagles with four RBI and two runs in a 3-4 performance at the plate. Siearrah Anderson helped push the production going 2-3 with three RBI, while Madi Blauer finished 2-4 with one RBI and two runs.
Playing for a chance to compete in the semifinals USU-Eastern fell 14-6 to the No. 2 seed College of Southern Idaho Golden Eagles.
Anderson remained hot at the plate launching a two-run blast in the opening inning to give the Lady Eagles an early advantage. Holding a 2-0 lead in the second, USU Eastern fell behind for good as CSI logged seven runs. Despite trimming the lead to two, CSI plated seven more runs in the final two innings.
Cassidy Howe finished a perfect 3-3 in the box to go along with one RBI and one run. Chyenne Pratt added two RBI as the Lady Eagles combined for ten hits.
The loss puts USU Eastern in an elimination contest with Snow College at 12:00 p.m.. A win would put the Lady Eagles against the winner of Southern Nevada and Colorado Northwestern at 5:00. A loss would bring an end to the season.
