The Division of Wildlife Resources is gearing up for some fun events for community members to get involved in now that the weather is warming up and it’s time to get outdoors.

The annual “Cops, Bobbers and Badges” event is scheduled for Saturday, May 13 from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm at the Carbon County Community Fishing Pond. “This is a great chance to get started on fishing, if you’re new to fishing or if you’re looking for a way to get the family and the kids involved. This is at one of our community fisheries which is a really great place to catch some trout and get started. Kids who are ages 12 and older will still need a valid fishing license,” said Morgan Jacobsen, Conservation Outreach Manager. Fishing licenses may be purchased online at wildlife.utah.gov, at any DWR office or at most sporting goods stores. The cost for ages 12 to 13 for a year is $5.00, ages 14 to 17 for a year is $16.00 and ages 18 and older is $34.00 for a year.

Children are encouraged to bring their fishing gear to the event if they don’t have their own the DWR will provide poles for those that will need them.

There will also be an opportunity for young outdoor enthusiasts to try their hand at archery. Jacobsen explains further, “We have a number of targets and bows, the kids are welcomed to use. They can come we’ll have a range set up in one of the buildings there at the fairgrounds and they can have a great time.” Children will also get to learn about the animals that live in Utah’s wild places by handling a collection of pelts, antlers and skulls. Lunch will also be provided for the children who participate in the event.
