The Museum of the San Rafael is hosting several free educational activities geared around the traveling Smithsonian exhibit called The Way We Worked, the display explores work over the last 150 years in American culture by tracing changes affecting the workplaces and workforce. Going along those lines the museum coordinators put together an exhibition entitled Emery County Works: 1880-1980, which explores the history of the workforce in Emery County. Both exhibits are currently on display at the museum till Saturday, July 8.

A family friendly event will take place on Wednesday, May 31 from 11:00 am to 3:00 pm at the museum in Castle Dale. This activity will allow guests to try their hand at one of the world’s oldest art forms – pottery making. They will be able to use different techniques with air-dry clay. This activity was made possible by the Utah Museum of Fine Arts.

The Castle Dale Library will host weekly story-time on Wednesdays beginning June 7 till July 5 from 11:00 am to 12:00 pm for kids of all ages. The librarians will read stories and host an activity focusing on the work that goes into building a better world. The library is located at 135 North 100 East. 

An evening of dancing is scheduled for Friday, June 16 from 8:30 pm to 11:00 pm at the museum. This a great opportunity for hard-working community members to unwind and visit with their neighbors.

The Emery County Historical Society will host a tour of the ghost town of Mohrland on Saturday, June 24, departure time is scheduled for 10:00 am from the Huntington Stake Center located at 240 North Main Street. An explanation of the old abandoned mining equipment and remnants of the town will be discussed. Guests will need to provide their own lunch, water and vehicle for the event.

The museum along with USU-Emery County Extension Office will offer a 2-day summer camp for children that is sure to be filled with fun, educational activities highlighting the way Emery County works. Lunch will be provided for the kids on both days. Parents will need to pre-register their child by Thursday, June 1 by calling the USU-Emery County Extension Office (435) 381-3539.

The summer will end with an evening of Women of Work Panel Conversation on Tuesday, July 6 at 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm. Guest speakers scheduled are Shanna Magnuson, Mary Huntington and Amanda O’Neil whom will talk about the successes and struggles of their jobs and the impact of change on the way they make a living. Light refreshments will be served.
