Carbon County Sheriff’s office was conducting an investigation on theft cases within the county that were reported to their office on June 3. After further examination detectives found details that led to Price native, Murry Olsen, who at the time was only considered a person of interest. On Tuesday, June 6, Sheriff’s office issued with dispatch an ATL (attempt to locate) for Olsen so that they could gather more information and details on the cases.
Shortly after the ATL was issued, Price City Sergeant, Brandon Sicilia saw the suspect driving close to 400 East where Olsen made a distinct effort to shield his face from the officer and slouch down in the drivers seat. The officer contacted dispatch to notify them that he had the suspect in his sights and requested further instructions on how to proceed. Dispatch advised the officer to make contact and stop the vehicle until Carbon County Sheriff’s Deputies could arrive to speak with Olsen. When the officer proceeded to turn his lights on to signal Olsen to stop, he made the decision to ignore the order and sped off.
Murry traveled through several southeast neighborhoods in Price at times of speeds of over 50 miles per hour trying to elude the officer. At one time, the suspect decided to travel through the parking lot of the Price Stake Center on 100 South where children were present outside of the church for an activity. Due to the recklessness and disregard shown by Olsen, officers scaled back in the pursuit and then lost sight of the suspect.
At this time, Carbon County Sheriff’s Deputy Tory Christensen was arrived to assist in the search for Olsen. Both officers began to patrol the neighborhoods thoroughly looking for the vehicle used in the chase. The vehicle used by Olsen was located in a driveway of a home that was believed to be where he resides. Law enforcement officials proceeded to knock on the door where they were able to make contact with Olsen and requested him to exit the residence. Olsen complied with no avail. The vehicle used in the chase was found to not be Olsen’s and was registered to the homeowners who stated that Olsen did not have permission to take the vehicle.
The suspect was put under arrest with charges from Price City of failure to respond to an officer signal which is a third-degree felony, and a Class B misdemeanor for driving on a revoked license. It is not known at this time what charges the Carbon County attorney will issue in regards to the entire incident.
The collaboration of multiple law enforcement agencies led to the apprehension of Olsen without any injuries to all parties involved.
