A late offensive surge was enough for Helper to erase a hefty mid-inning deficit to top Roosevelt 11-10 in eight innings Monday night at home.

Taylon Abeyta picked up the win on the hill after pitching two innings of shutout ball for Helper. Nate Olson pitched 3.2 innings, and Tyler Vasquez helped complete the three man effort as Helper improved to 2-0.

Playing in its first division game since June 2, Helper scored nine runs in the final three frames to send the game to extra innings.

Down one with two outs in the bottom of the seventh, Abeyta laced a line drive to right field with the base loaded. The hit scored Zac Bradley, but Roosevelt forced the game into extra innings as Anthony Jones was thrown out at the plate.

Despite walking two, Abeyta managed to work out of a jam giving up no runs in the top of the eighth. The solid defensive frame put Helper in position to grab the win in front of the home crowd.

After drawing a walk with one out in the bottom of the inning, Kameron Gunter managed to advance to third and eventually scored the game winning run on a two-out wild pitch.

Jayden Flemett helped lead the furious comeback by going 3-5 at the plate with a game high 4 RBIs. Abeyta added to his day by notching three RBIs on a 3-4 performance. Cody Lowe ended 2-3 with a triple and RBI.

Monday’s contest with Roosevelt was expected to be a double-header, but due to the length of the first contest the second game was postponed. The two teams will meet again on a date to be determined.

Helper was expected to travel to Corner Canyon on Tuesday for its third Southern Division contest, but rain in the area has led to a postponed game. The next scheduled game for Helper is set for June 21 at Dixie.
