The Carbon Blue 11-year old Cal Ripken All-Stars clinched the Southern Utah State Championship with a 17-8 win over Vernal Thursday night at the Toy Atwood Baseball Complex in Price.
Despite falling in an early 2-0 hole in the top of the first, Carbon delivered a burst of offense to capture the lead for good as they answered with five runs of their own. As a team Carbon combined for 17 hits.
C.J. Smuin earned the win on the hill for Carbon, pitching four solid innings. Riley Davis and Maizen Prichard finished the final three innings to help preserve the win.
Thursday’s championship performance marks the fourth consecutive for the group. Next the team will travel to the regional tournament, which is scheduled to take place in Long Beach.
