The Assumption Greek Orthodox Church’s annual Greek Festival will take place on Friday, July 15 and Saturday, July 16 from 11:00 am to 11:30 pm at the church located at 61 South 200 East in Price.

Guests are invited to come enjoy exquisite Greek cuisine, traditional dancing, booths, church tours, and many other activities that the entire family will enjoy. One of many organizers, Connie Hamilton spoke on where the proceeds go, “Greek Festival is basically to earn funds for philanthropic and charities for our community and also to maintain our church on the National Historic Register.” The church just celebrated 100 years last year during the festival.

Serving lines will open at 11:00 am, with two serving lines to accommodate the people who want to go through the ale carte or purchase the express platter to go. Guests can enjoy food items such as kourambiethes, finikia, baklava, koulouakia, Greek bread and much, much more.

The traditional dancers will be performing for guests on both days of the festival. “We have Greek Dancers that will be performing from Salt Lake, the Danese dancers and the Opa dancers periodically throughout the day Friday and into Friday night. Then there are three performances early on Saturday at 12:00 pm, 1:00 pm and 1:30 pm,” stated Hamilton. The performances are a crowd favorite each year and the public are sometimes invited up to dance as well.

The festival is not complete without taking part in the free tours to learn about the history of the beautiful church. Hamilton added, “We are very happy this year to have our new Parish Priest, Father Serathim Johns, he’s from Pocatello and he will be conducting church tours. If you have not had the opportunity to visit the interior of the orthodox parish it is magnificent.” There are three tours scheduled to take place on both Friday and Saturday, event organizers will announce to guests when the tours will start and ask guests to congregate to the front steps of the church.
