The 2017-18 high school sports season is set to begin this week for a number of programs, while others are gearing up for action.
The first official game for the Emery Spartans will take place on the soccer field as the Lady Spartans travel to meet Gunnison on Aug. 10. The Lady Spartans will continue the season on Aug. 12 at home against Ben Lomond.
Emery’s golf team will also start the season on Thursday with a trip to Grand. Last season Grand easily claimed the 2A State Championship as they finished the year unbeaten at home.
Football will not be far behind as the season is set to open on on Aug. 18 on the road against the Richfield Wildcats. Entering season two under head coach Jon Faimalo, the Spartans will play its first home game the following week against Summit Academy.
The cross country team will begin the season on Aug. 30 at the Moab Invitational. Sept. 19 will mark the lone home meet for Emery . This year’s region meet will take place in San Juan on Oct. 10.
Girl’s tennis will start the season Aug. 24. The team will travel to meet Richfield and then travel again on the 29 to North Sanpete. The first home meet will take place Sept. 5 against South Sevier.
The volleyball season will begin when the Lady Spartans play host to rival Carbon on Aug. 24 at the Spartan Center. The team will then travel to St. George for a two day tournament on both Friday and Saturday.
