PRICE, UTAH – The Utah State Eastern men’s soccer team lost to Lake Tahoe Community College 2-0 on Thursday in Las Vegas.
USU Eastern fell short despite being in control of most of the game and outshooting Lake Tahoe.
Sophomore goal keeper Austin Munoz was in goal for Eastern and had eight saves.
Leading Eastern in shots was freshman forward Jojea Kwizera who ended the game with three shots.
Head coach Ammon Bennett said that the difference between a win and a loss was a few plays that went their opponents way.
“We played a great game, out shot them and out possess them, we just gave up a couple very lucky goals,” said Bennett.
Bennett said that his team also missed opportunities that hurt them throughout the game.
“We had golden opportunities to score but unfortunately that is how the game goes. It is skilled part of the game when we have opportunities to score and finish but when you don’t you are going to walk away and lose those games,” he said.
With an overall record of 1-2, Bennett remains optimistic going forward as his team continues their nonconference schedule.
“I thought we played very well, fortunately for us we are improving but we have to find a way to put the ball in the back of the net,” said Bennett.
USU Eastern’s next game will be this Saturday in Las Vegas against Grand Canyon University Club at 3 p.m. PST.
They open their conference schedule with two matches next weekend against the College of Southern Nevada on the road.
