After pulling an upset over Emery in the opening round of the 3A State Tournament on Wednesday, the Carbon Lady Dinos were bounced by the North Sanpete Hawks 2-0 in the quarterfinals Saturday in Mount Pleasant.
Looking to ride the momentum from Wednesday’s win, the Lady Dinos played North Sanpete to a scoreless tie in the first half. Unable to find the groove on offense, Carbon failed to keep pace with the Hawks in the loss.
Emi Palmer scored both goals for North Sanpete, while goalie Hallie Bennett recorded the shutout. The win moves the Hawks into the semifinals against Judge Memorial on Friday.
Saturday’s loss brings an end to Carbon’s season, which will certainly be highlighted by a first round victory over Emery. Entering the state tournament as the No. 6 seed from Region 14, Carbon had lost seven of eight games heading into the postseason.
