“Talk low, talk slow, and don’t say too much,” John Wayne. The ultimate John Wayne fan passed away on March 14, 2016. Vernon W. Jones was born on September 30, 1939 in Clear Creek, Utah to Walter and Marie Cook Jones. He grew up and attended school in Carbon County and graduated from Carbon High school in 1957. Vern enlisted in the Navy and did two tours of duty in the Mediterranean on the aircraft carrier Forrestal.
He married Thelma Tryon on July 5, 1958 and she joined him in Clarksville, TN where he was stationed. He is survived by their children Brian Jones, his daughters Andrea Jones and grandson Brayden Jones; Mckayla Moore; Kurt Jones, his sons Keith and Kimberly Fearnow, and grandson Xander; Joshua and Crystal Fearnow, and grandchildren Joshua, Kurt, and Samantha; Vicki and Tim Noyes, daughter BoWynn and Kent Ashworth, and grandchildren Mason and MaCarty; son Joshua Noyes. Vern’s first wife, Thelma, passed away on June 19, 1989.
Vern married Karen Bliss on September 29, 1990, and they blended their families to include her daughter Heidi and McKray Johnson, their son Casey and Talisha Johnson, and grandchildren Kenadee, Koy, and Karlee; and son Dallan and Meagan Johnson.
Vern attended Carbon College and Weber State College and then worked at the Green River Missile base from 1963 to 1976. When the missile base closed, he went to work for Price City where he was director of public works and administrator for the mayor. He retired in 2001. He has filled his retirement years with cruising, woodworking and enjoying the great grandchildren.
Vern is preceded in death by his parents, Walt and Marie Jones; his first wife Thelma; and brother, Raymond Faulkner. Survived by his brothers Duane Jones and family and John Jones and family.
A viewing will be held at Mitchell’s Funeral home on Thursday, March 17 at 6:00 pm to 7:00 pm. The funeral service will at Mitchell Funeral Home on Friday, March 18, 2016 at 11:00 am with a viewing one hour prior to the service. Interment will be in the Price City Cemetery.
