Unable to recover from an early deficit, the Carbon Lady Dinos fell to the Juab Wasps 52-45 on the road in the Region 14 opener Tuesday night.
Kelsey Sorenson poured in a game-high 21 points to lead Carbon in the loss. Jordan Bianco helped push the offense with 10 points, while Abbi Saccomanno finished with eight.
Trailing 16-8 at the end of the opening quarter, the Lady Dinos methodically chipped away at the Juab lead. Trimming the deficit to just five at half time, the two played to a near equal second half as the Wasps came out on top.
Hannah Robbins delivered a standout performance for Juab, scoring 17 points and accumulating 18 boards. Kay Willow poured in 11 points to go along with seven rebounds. Bayli Heap also reached double-figures, finishing with 10 points.
Tuesday’s loss sends Carbon to 5-3 overall on the season, and 0-1 in region action. The Lady Dinos will have an opportunity to log their first league win of the season when they return to the court on Thursday on the road against Providence Hall.
