The Price City Police Department held their annual “Shop with a Cop” event on Saturday, December 9 at the local Walmart. This event is to help underprivileged children in the area with Christmas.
“What the program does is through some grants and other funding we are able to reach out to some families that can be helped by the “Shop with a Cop” program. We’re able to take some kids and let them spend some money and have some fun playing around with the police cars and everything,” explained Program Coordination, Price PD Sgt. Kelly Maynes. “I started probably about six months ago for two different grants that pay for the program. Walmart is a huge sponsor and they do an awesome job. They have a community grant that they do.” Additional funding also came from The Utah Police Civilian Association, who matched the amount given by Walmart. This allowed for the program to help more children this year.
The local McDonald’s is another huge sponsor who serves breakfast to the children before they begin their Christmas shopping.
Law enforcement officials from Helper, Price, Wellington, East Carbon, Sheriffs Department and Highway Patrol officers were able to bring great job to 38 children in the area. “It’s a good program. There is a lot of work involved in getting it all set up but once it’s all said and done, it’s a good thing and the smile on the faces from the kids and the families is all what it is for.” All of the officers look forward to this event each year for the opportunity to interact with the youngest members of the community.
The Price City Police Department would like to wish everyone to have a safe holiday.
