The Emery Lady Spartans continued their early season dominance with a 64-20 blowout over the Springville Red Devils on the road Friday evening.

Traveling to face the only 5A school on the schedule this season, the Lady Spartans used a heavy dose of defense to accumulate a 14-1 lead at the end of the opening quarter. Emery continued to thrive defensively and blew the game open with a 17-5 run in the second quarter.

Kinlee Toomer was one of three Lady Spartans to reach double-figures finishing with a team best 13 points, and seven assists. Kacelynn Toomer recorded a difficult double-double, finishing with ten points and ten steals, while Lainee Jensen finished with 12 points.

Emery set the tone defensively in the monster win, notching 24 steals in the lopsided win. Ball movement was also key for the Lady Spartans, as the team finished with 18 assists.

Friday’s win moves Emery to 7-0 on the season, and gives the team plenty of momentum heading into the Christmas Break. With wins over 1A, 2A, 3A and 5A squads, Emery has recorded six of their seven wins by a minimum of 25 points.

Emery will now take a lengthy two week hiatus for the Christmas Break. The team will next take the court on Dec. 29 on the road against Jordan.
