The students at Carbon High once again have brighten the holidays for many low-income families in the area through their annual Carbon Christmas event. This year the students worked hard and with help from the entire community were able to surpass their goal of $27,000.00 by raising a total of $33,427.39. This amount is calculated in the amount of money earned and donations gathered.
The Student Government officers host an assembly at the beginning of December to inform all of the students of the month’s schedule of fundraising activities and encourage each of them to help in giving Christmas to deserving families. “All the money stays local, it doesn’t go anywhere else, it stays here and we help local families who can’t afford a Christmas, donate to local charities and we just try to help out around the community,” said Student Body President, Abby Robinson. The goal was met through fun activities held at the school for students, as well as, events held in the community like the Odd Job Program, Stuff the Bus, Christmas Craft Show and special nights at local restaurants to support the cause. A few new events were set-up to attract more interest from the community like Bunco Night, Chili Cook-off and a Zumbathon, each showing an amazing turn out.
All of the high school students can now enjoy their well-deserved Christmas break after working so hard and putting in long hours, to once again have another very successful and profitable Carbon Christmas.
