Turnovers plagued the Emery Spartans in a 74-50 region loss to the Manti Templars Friday evening on the road.
Unable to adapt to the full court pressure applied by Manti throughout the game, the Spartans committed 23 turnovers in the loss. Playing from behind early Emery erased an early double-digit in the first quarter, but a turnover plagued second period put the Spartans back in deep hole.
Kyson Stilson delivered a dynamic performance, scoring 25 points and accumulating six rebounds despite the loss. Easton Gordon also finished in double-figures with 16 points, while Brax Jensen ended with six.
Matt Nelson paced Manti with 20 points as he hit a game-best five shots from the perimeter. Brody Barson caused issues for Emery in the post by scoring 15 points, and Mason Thompson scored 11 off of the bench.
Friday’s loss sends Emery to 2-2 in Region 15 play, while the win moves Manti to 3-1. The two teams will meet again at the Spartan Center in Castle Dale on Feb. 2.
The Spartans will have an opportunity to bounce back from Friday’s loss with another road contest on Wednesday against the Grand Red Devils.
