Seven first place finishes propelled the Carbon Lady Dinos swim team to a region championship Thursday afternoon at the Desert Wave Pool in Price.

Competing against six other schools, Carbon finished with 520 points, easily beating second place Millard, who finished with 269 points. American Leadership Academy ended third with 241 points, followed by Delta and Maeser Prep. Union and Beaver completed the field of seven.

Carbon started the meet with a victory in the 200 yard medley relay as Emily Jespersen Nicole Swasey, Sofia Crompton, Ashlin Baker finished in 2:12.59. The event was a sign of things to come for Carbon throughout the day.

Later in the afternoon the 200 yard freestyle relay team consisting of Shannon Baker, Kacee Barrett, Megan Swasey and Crompton earned the second relay win for Carbon with a finishing time of 1:51.18. That time also set a brand new school record, which was originally established back in 2013.

Barrett delivered a solid day for Carbon as she also claimed first place in the 200 yard IM, and 100 yard butterfly. Swasey also logged an individual win for Carbon in the 100 yard backstroke, topping the competition with a time of 1:22.35.

Megan Swasey led the group of Carbon swimmers that finished first, second and third in the 50 yard free. Swasey finished in 27.33 seconds, while Shannon Baker ended with a time of 28.17, followed by Jacee Richards at 29.84.

Carbon ended the day with a win in the 400 yard freestyle relay as Jespersen, Baker, Barrett and Megan Swasey finished in 4:16.43.

The Carbon boy’s team accumulated 311 points throughout the region championship, which placed them third overall. Millard took home first place with 360 points, edging out second place Delta. Union, Maeser, ALA and Telos rounded out the field of seven.

Tyson Swasey was the lone Carbon swimmer to take home first place in an event. Swasey won the 100 yard freestyle with a time of 53.71. Swasey also set a school record in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:08.56 in a second place finish. The old record was held by Todd Klarich in 1995, who finished the race in 1:09.18.

With the region campaign now complete, the Dinos will turn their attention to the state championship on Feb. 8th. Below are the complete results from Thursday’s meet:
