The USU Extension Office, along with Price River Water Improvement District are hosting the annual Castle Valley Crop School on Wednesday, February 7 from 5:30 pm to 8:30 pm. This free event is open to anyone in the agricultural field and will take place at the Carbon County Fairgrounds Event Center located at 310 South Fairgrounds Road.

“There will be a Trade Show that starts at 5:30 pm goes till 6:30 pm. The Trade Show will be all of our local and regional agricultural services companies, as well as, equipment dealers. They will be coming and showing us the latest and greatest on what they are able to do to help us out,” stated Agriculture Educator, Steve Price. “IFA will be sending someone to show off one of their flow hives, this actually has a tap that you open and the honey just comes right out, so I’m excited to see that.” This eliminates the spin process that has been used to extract the honey.

Guests will enjoy a light dinner before the evening’s educational seminars begin at 6:30 pm. They would like folks who are interested in attending to please RSVP so they have an idea of how much food will be needed for the dinner. To RSVP contact Julie Weber at (435) 381-2300, ext. 101 or by email at Julie.weber@utah.gov

“This year for our workshop we have Dr. Earl Creech, who is the State Agronomist, he’ll be talking about GMO’s, Dr. Matt Yost he’s our Agroclimatologist will be talking about Alfalfa Management and Irrigation and Dr. Cory Ransom will be talking about obnoxious weed control,” stated Price. All of the information shared with attendees is geared to improve their current operations.

People who attend the event may receive credit as Price explains, “We are also offering two continuing use credits for pesticide applicators, so this will be for your pesticide licenses. So, it’s a good way to get it, you can come, get some CUs and try to win some door prizes at the same time.” The door prizes will be awarded throughout the event.
