One of the biggest events that local folks look forward to every single summer is the annual Carbon County Sheriff Search and Rescue Demolition Derby. The team puts on this event to earn funds that are contributed towards the program’s expenses, training, equipment in order to operate a successful organization.
“You know it’s that time of year that we start talking about our Search and Rescue Demolition Derby. Although, its August 11 that seems like a long time, but its not that far away,” said Carbon County Sheriff Jeff Wood. “So, we got everything ready if you are a driver interested in building a derby car for this year’s derby the rules are out there.” Tire King located at 535 East Main Street in Price will again be the hub for drivers to register, obtain a hard copy of the rules and direct any derby questions to.
Again, this year there will be several different classes of vehicles. “We’re going to do the mini cars, we’re going to do the 80s or newer, we’re going to do the mini trucks, the full-size trucks and I think we have the old iron steel class,” stated Wood. The way things have gone in recent years there may be a class that has more vehicles that will leave limited spots available, so drivers are strongly encouraged to get signed up as soon as possible.
“If you’re a business that wants to donate to the derby, we have our sign board locations inside the arena and outside of the arena. There will be a Search and Rescue member come around to local businesses over the next few weeks asking if they want to donate for that,” said Wood. This is a great way to advertise your business while supporting a worthy organization that helps people in crisis. The team is made up of a group of highly trained unpaid volunteers that work to better serve their community.
Derby organizers would like to invite any drivers who currently have a car to participate in the St. Patrick Day Parade on March 17 in Price by signing up at Tire King. Further details along with parade instructions will be given at that time.
