Price City’s Desert Wave Pool will be conducting their 2018 Lifeguard Training Course beginning February 26 and running through till March 9. Each class will be three hours of instruction on various topics related to the lifeguard position.

Interested individuals must be in good physical condition, at least 15 years of age by the last day of class and bring proof of age with their birth certificate or driver’s license to the first day of class. The first night will determine whether individuals will be allowed admission into the actually training course. If admitted there will be a required fee of $150.00 that must be paid.

The following water skills must be accomplished on the first night:

•      Individual must be able to swim 300 yards continuously, demonstrating breath control and rhythmic breathing. Swimmers may use the front crawl, breaststroke or a combination of both but swimming on the back or side is not allowed. Swim goggles may be used.

•      Tread water for two minutes using only the legs, swimmer should place their hands under their armpits.

•      Starting in the water, swim 20 yards using front crawl or breaststroke, surface dive to a depth of seven to ten feet, retrieve a 10-pound object, return to the surface and swim 20 yards back to the starting point with the object and exit the water without using a ladder or steps with in one minute 40 seconds.

The tentative schedule for the Lifeguard Training Course will be:

•      February 26 from 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm / Pre-course session: Introduction, skills test
Lesson 1 – The Professional Lifeguard and Facility Safety

•   February 28 from 3:15 pm to 6:15 pm
Lesson 2 – Facility Safety, Patrol Surveillance and Injury Prevention

•   March 1 from 3:15 pm to 6:16 pm
Lesson 3 – Part 1 of Injury Prevention and Rescue Skills

•   March 2 from 3:15 pm to 6:15 pm
Lesson 4 – Part 2 Rescue Skills

•   March 5 from 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm
Lesson 5 – Before Providing Care, Victim Assessment and Breathing Emergencies

•   March 6 from 3:15 pm to 6:15 pm
Lesson 6 – Cardiac Emergencies and using an Automated External Defibrillator

•   March 7 from 3:15 pm to 6:15 pm
Lesson 7 – First Aid

•   March 8 from 3:15 pm to 6:15 pm
Lesson 8 – Head, Neck and Spinal Injuries in the Water

•   March 9 from 3:15 pm to 6:15 pm
Lesson 9 – Final Written Exam and Final In-water Skill Scenarios
