The Emery Spartans were unable to slow the hot bats of the South Sevier Rams in a 12-6 setback Tuesday afternoon in Castle Dale.

Errors plagued the Spartans early and South Sevier managed to capitalize in a near wire-to-wire win. Tuesday’s loss is the second straight for Emery following an impressive six-game winning streak the carried over to the start of division action.

Jace Collard was charged with the loss on the mound, allowing eight hits and seven earned runs in just one inning of action. Cade Brazier worked six innings, giving up five hits and four earned runs, while striking out one.

As a team the Spartans totaled eight hits throughout the contest. Senior Easton Gordon finished 3-4 in the box, logging three RBI’s and scoring one run in the process. Fellow senior Colten Willson also ended 3-4 and brought in one run.

Tuesday’s loss dips Emery to 1-2 in Region 15 play, and 6-3 overall. Currently sitting in fourth place in the division, the Spartans trail the Grand Red Devils by a half game for third place.

Emery will return to the field on Friday with a trip to Monroe to wrap up the season series set with the Rams. The next home game will take place on Saturday against South Summit.
